True hourly rate calculator (overtime with a bonus)

If you got a bonus, commission or shift extra this week, or worked at two different rates, your overtime should be based on your true hourly rate, not just your base rate. Type each kind of pay for the week.

What you are owedupdates as you type
What these words mean
True hourly rate
What you really earn per hour once bonuses, commissions or shift extras are added in. Overtime is owed on this rate, not just your base rate.
Overtime premium
The extra part of overtime pay above your normal rate: the 'half' in time and a half.
Overtime
Extra pay for extra hours. Federal law says 1.5 times your normal rate for every hour over 40 in a work week. Some states add rules for long days.
Time and a half (1.5x)
Your normal hourly rate plus half again. $20 an hour becomes $30.

Questions

Which extras count toward my true hourly rate?

Bonuses you earn by meeting a target (attendance, production, sales), commissions and shift extras all count. A surprise gift bonus, expense repayments and the overtime pay itself do not.

Why does the calculator add only half the rate for overtime hours?

Because the normal part of each overtime hour is already in your pay. Overtime adds the extra half on top, or the extra whole hour for double time.
